Methods & Advice

The Golf Course and fishery were opened in 2003 and are now well established although we are constantly trying to improve the fishing.  We are also now a licensed fish farm and have our own breeding program, hatchery and stock pools.  We are producing fish year on year and now see thousands of young fish each year being introduced into the various ponds and lakes to improve the fishing for our customers.

You will find that most traditional methods of fishing will produce fish. Although a commercial, it is more of a natural fishery, than your regular commercial.  It has been stocked with as many silvers, as it has carp, and the skimmers are now over a pound, and skimmer nets are now competing with carp nets in the matches.

Current favoured methods for match fishing in the summer are pellet on the pole line over a bed of fed pellets for carp & skimmers or the Method with red boilee or red maggot.  Autumn and spring, the skimmer fishing is excellent, and worm and caster is the preferred method, waiting for a carp on the feeder or method can be risky, but worth it if it works!

The Carp anglers looking for the bigger fish, find heavy feeding a benefit at times, and report boilies of varying sizes and flavours with varying techniques to catch the big fish.

Winter fishing, again worm and caster can work if its mild, or worm and joker is best if its very cold. Few carp show, but winter catches of silvers can be over 30lb still.  For big Carp, boilies, with boilies or pellets in PVA bags or on a stringer seem to be the most popular methods.

Many of the country's top Anglers, regularly compete at Barston Lakes.
